Competitor analysis template

A B2B SaaS competitor analysis template built around buyer decisions.

Map the competitive situation, buyer, problem, product workflow, positioning, proof, packaging, and monitoring plan without producing an unmaintainable feature spreadsheet.

Company snapshot

Buyer, problem, category, route to market, and strategic context.

Offer analysis

Workflow, differentiation, proof, packaging, pricing signals, and objections.

Monitoring appendix

Sources, assumptions, material changes, owner, and review cadence.

01

Section A: Frame the situation

Write the decision, segment, use case, competitors, substitutes, deadline, and evidence standard. The same company may be a direct competitor in one situation and irrelevant in another.

02

Section B: Map each offer

Capture target buyer, urgent problem, promised outcome, core workflow, differentiators, integrations, customer proof, packaging, pricing presentation, and go-to-market motion.

03

Section C: Identify strengths, gaps, and uncertainty

Use sourced observations. Explain where the competitor is structurally strong, where the offer creates tradeoffs, and which conclusions depend on missing customer or deal evidence.

04

Section D: Convert insights into decisions

List positioning questions, launch implications, sales context, product research needs, and what should not change. Avoid reflexively copying a competitor feature or price.

05

Section E: Keep the analysis current

Attach priority source URLs, expected update frequency, material-change definitions, and the owner of the next review.

Frequently asked questions

Questions to resolve before you change the workflow.

Can I use this template for more than one competitor?

Yes. Complete one evidence-backed profile per priority competitor, then add a short cross-competitor synthesis focused on the decision you named in Section A.

What should I leave out?

Leave out fields that do not affect the decision, unsourced certainty, exhaustive low-value feature inventories, and vanity facts that no stakeholder will act on.
